Concept of categorisation

One subgoal of my bachelor thesis will be the categorisation of the social media monitoring tools i will look at. In the actual list there are 30 tools. The complete list will be published, when it is fixed.
This goal should be accomplished to make it easier to find the right tools for the special need of the user. To do so, i'm developing a scheme with a bunch of criterias, which will give an overview about the features and properties of the tools as well as their use of sources. I won't present the whole scheme here and now because it's not finished by now.
I now want to give a short idea how a categorisation of tools concernig the features of the tools could look like:

  • collecting tools: These tools will just collect the mentions and information and will present them to the user, who has to read and analyse them. An example for this could be Addictomatic.
  • analytic tools:
    • sentiment-analytic: These tools will deliver the posibilities to analyse mention and their meanings and nomaly deliver quantative analysis as well. Additionally theses tools often performe geographical and demographical analysis. Two examples for this category could be Brandwatch and Alterian SM2, but there would be many more. In my opinion this will be the category where most of the social media monitoring tools will be settle.
    • quantitative-analytic: These tools will deliver some values concerning the mentions found, like how many of the mention were found on one special site or somethin similar. One example for this could be Twoolr.
    • engament-capable: These tools are mostly sentiment-analytic one with one special addon. They deliver a feature to engage directly and so enable to directly react to a tweet for example. In this category I would name Radian 6 and Sysomos Hearbeat as examples.
